While I’ve been a member of USA since 98, I have been training seriously in Schutzhund since 2003. Prior to and during my involvement in Schutzhund, my GSD’s were involved in another working capacity, Herding. Prior to working dogs in herding I trained and titled a mixed breed in Agility. Both of my dogs have the German herding title of HGH (Herding Utility Dog) a combined 8 times. Elexa “Lexie” achieved this title at the young age of 18 months old. Ike is one of the few GSD’s that is Handler Owner Trained in the U.S. that has both the HGH and a SchH3 title. Ike is retired from Schutzhund competition to concentrate on Elexa. Ike still actively competes in herding working towards a herding championship in AKC. Elexa is just up and coming in the world of Schutzhund, with hopes of trialing in the spring of 2010, so look for her out there on the trial field in the future.

My Jenny was the dog that showed me the way - she was an exceptional therapy dog. We visited hospitals and nursing homes twice a week for more than 3 years. She also learned carting and participated in an "Indiana Jones" style of confidence course where she had to climb ladders, walk on swinging bridges and parallel bars 4 feet above the ground. She did all this with courage and good humor. She was my first German Shepherd and we learned so much together. I am currently working Elka towards a SchH1 in the spring of 2010. Elka’s mother came to the sport of Schutzhund late in life after a successful career in HGH sheep herding. She got her SchH1 title at the age of seven and her SchH3 title at the age of 9! Two of her other pups have their HGH titles and are both training toward a Schutzhund Titles at UBSC at this time as well. Berta is still going strong at 10 training for a Utility Title.

While I am new to the sport of Schutzhund, I started training dogs 20+ years ago in AKC obedience. My interests expanded to Herding when I found out my dog Ace had the instinct for tending sheep. I have trained three dogs that attained the SV, HGH (Herding Utility Dog) Herding title & two that have AKC Herding Excellent titles. My current dog Eian earned the HGH Herding title twice at the young age of 18 months. It is as a result of doing the Protection Test for the HGH trials that my interests have now expanded to the sport of Schutzhund.

Molly and I are working towards our SchH1 title. We have been training in Schutzhund since 2007 and have enjoyed learning the sport together. Previously I competed with Molly and my older dog Libby in AKC obedience, where Molly and Libby both obtained their CD and rally titles. All of my dogs are certified Therapy Dogs and enjoy visiting schools and retirement homes in their spare time. They also ranked number 6 in fundrasing for the Amercian Cancer Society Bark for Life for the past two years, raising over $10,000.00. This spring I look forward to starting a new puppy from working lines.

I've owned Dobermans my whole life since I was 13 years old, but none like this crazy dog!!! I enjoy biking, training and staying active with my dog. I joined this club to understand and get better control of my current dog's social behavior. Hopefully someday we'll be able to compete in the sport.

Neeka is a dog with a lot of heart. At nine weeks old she was diagnosed with a genetic heart defect called a PDA. Without surgery she most likely wouldn’t have lived to see her first birthday. At eleven weeks old she had heart surgery to correct the defect and was ready to take on whatever came her way. Initially, we concentrated on AKC titles, but we eventually discovered that Neeka had the potential for Schutzhund. We are currently working toward the goal of achieving our very first Schutzhund title. We are having a lot of fun and are looking forward to all of the accomplishments we hope to achieve in the future.

I have always had an interest in dogs and dog training. Four years ago I came across the world of schutzhund and have been hooked ever since. My first and current dog "Kane" has taught me a lot. Kane has been a great dog to experiment different training techniques and, I look forward to successfully achieving his schutzhund 2 and 3 titles within the next year. I also enjoy doing helper work and police K9 decoy work. I strive for excellence in everything I do and will continue to educating myself in all phases in the sport of Schutzhund.

I have had dogs all of my life, but I have never done any formal training or competition with them until now. That type of activity was reserved for my Appaloosa horses in Dressage, Western and Special Olympics competitions. I’ve always wanted a purebred GSD so while researching activities to do with the future dog, I discovered the sport of Schutzhund which appealed to me. Cassie was bred to do this work and really seems to enjoy it. I hope to keep everything in its proper perspective by keeping in mind that the bond is more important than the title, the fun more important than the work or expense.
